The mission of the Regency Dental Hygiene Academy is "to ensure that its graduates are educated to perform all recognized dental hygiene procedures in the most proficient manner, based on a sound theoretical, pre-clinical, and clinical learning experience."
The fulfillment of the mission is evidenced in its academic curriculum which meets the requirements of the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC). The curriculum at Regency Dental Hygiene Academy is in compliance with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario's (CDHO) Standards of Practice. CDHO is the regulating body for dental hygiene in Ontario.
Before practicing dental hygiene, graduates must pass the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board Examination and register with the CDHO.
The teaching program at Regency Dental Hygiene Academy is devoted solely to educating students in dental hygiene. Therefore, faculty and staff are dedicated to providing a broad approach to meeting the needs of patients. The Academy is accredited by the CDAC. The Regency Dental Hygiene Academy boasts of 30 modern clinical operatories, classrooms, laboratories, computer and library rooms, and x-ray facilities. The student receives training in diverse community health settings. These include exposure to geriatric patients, paediatric patients, and mentally and physically disadvantaged patients, who despite their conditions, deserve oral care treatment. Regency Dental Hygiene Academy Admission Requirements Applicants must complete an in-depth interview with the school's Director. This is the first step in the admission process. If selected from the interview, applicants will have to complete an entrance exam. The fee is $125 and covers reading comprehension, mathematics aptitude, cognitive skills, grade 11 biology, chemistry and physics, to test an applicant's knowledge and preparedness for the rigorous coursework. Following exam completion, the Regency Dental Hygiene Academy must receive copies of all transcripts, grade reports, diplomas, certificates. Out-of-country transcripts are subject to an equivalency review. Reference letters from family friends, employers, or teachers who can attest to the applicant's work ethic or study habits are acceptable. The last two requirements for acceptance into the Regency Dental Hygiene Academy are: a resume outlining work experience, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work and previous education; and, a 200 word essay that must be completed within 48 hours. The applicant receives the essay topic during the initial interview. Each of the following admission requirements must be completed by the assigned deadline without exception. If a candidate is accepted to the Regency Dental Hygiene Academy, he or she is required to provide an evaluation of their current oral health status; current immunization records; and, evidence of having received CPR and first-aid certification, or that training is in progress.
