There are eight week, accelerated programs that are entirely online. They include courses in dental hygiene practice, advanced clinical concepts and principles of marketing. Other programs take up to twenty one months to finish. A program of this type would include courses in oral health research, health care ethics and computer applications. Dental Hygienist Advanced Education

For those that have a bachelor's degree and want to take continuing education courses, there is a bachelor's to master's program available. One requirement for entrance into the master's dental hygienist online course includes having already taken and passed the bachelor's program. A master's program typically takes an additional two years.

Because the grow and demand for this occupation is expected to continue at a fast pace, the need for dental hygienists will also continue to grow. Many older dentists that do not employee dental hygienist are beginning to retire and are being replaced by the younger generation.
